About

Hooked By Luce started as a hobby and side hustle when I was 16, shortly after COVID hit. Back then, I sold things like bags, drink bottle holders, and hats. I’ve always grown up trying to be as environmentally conscious as possible, and it’s important to me that this carries through into my business, from the yarn I use to the tools I work with. The op shop has become like a second home to me — a place where I can find original, one-off pieces that may never be found again. That’s exactly how I want people to feel when they purchase something from Hooked By Luce: like they’re receiving something truly unique and special.

For Kizzy…

I’ve always loved surprising people with something handmade. Seeing someone’s face light up when they receive a crochet piece from Hooked By Luce is what inspired me to pursue this as more than just a hobby. My best friend, Kizzy, was one of those special people. I would often make things for her, and eventually I taught her how to crochet herself, allowing her to create her own projects. Sadly, Kiz passed away on 3 September 2023. Crocheting has helped me enormously through the grieving process. Sitting down and healing through each stitch has become a source of comfort for me. When you lose someone, you never truly know how you’re going to react until they’re gone, and you don’t realise just how much of an impact they’ve had on your life until they’re no longer here. Losing Kiz made me realise that life is far too precious to take for granted. Because of this, Hooked By Luce is no longer just a hobby or side hustle.

Life is too short to hold yourself back because something “might not work.” Do what you love. Live life to the fullest — not just for someone else, but for yourself too.
